The party reached a western shore where Kipp felt rejuvenated and stronger(went up a level). They traveled through a cavern illuminated by bioluminescent fungi and crossed a natural stone bridge. Kipp and Oglesby searched for tracks and then traps, finding very few signs of passage or traps, they moved toward a four-way intersection. Oglesby hid in the shadows to scout a large chamber containing veins of crystalline minerals.

In this chamber, they encountered three stony creatures with large center eyes and mouths located where their heads should be. Kipp used his knowledge of animal lore to identify them as Xorns, noting they were not inherently evil but were “eating machines” that consumed rocks, gems, and metals. To avoid a formidable fight, the party decided to placate the creatures.

Brandy broke several baseball-sized gems loose from the walls and tossed them to the Xorns, who ate them greedily. Eleanor and Oglesby contributed non-magical items, including a copper bowl, brass bracers, and old swords, to the tribute. Once the Xorns were satisfied and returned to digging in the rock, the party moved south.

They followed some other paths that circled around and back onto themselves. They returned to the boat and moved up the waterway under the bridge. There was not enough room for everyone on the boat so Audra floated behind the boat with Brandy standing on her boot and holding her leg. Pyreece held Audra's hand and pulled her along behind them. Under the floorboards of the boat, they discovered a hidden storage space containing a mast and a sail, as well as a sculling oar for steering. The party navigated a narrow water course that led to a completely flooded cavern with a single island in the center.

They approached the island to investigate glittering treasures. While a few of them departed the boat to search the island, they were ambushed by Lacedons (aquatic ghouls) emerging from the water. The creatures' stench caused nausea. Their claw attacks caused Pyreece to become paralyzed. This was especially bad as the Lacedon's were a form of ghast while Pyreece could have turned. They beat down the undead one at a time and in a fierce melee, while Eleanor provided support with her staff. They recovered gems worth approximately 1,000 gold pieces from the island.

They tried other water paths which led no where. They tried a path which led back to a bridge they had crossed over. The current quickly became strong and rough. Realizing they were being pulled toward a substantial waterfall, they scrambled to stop the boat. Audra floated to the front and up and over the bridge where she landed with Brandy still hanging on. Together they braced to hold a rope that Kipp had tied to the mast. They successfully stopped the boat twenty feet before the falls. The party then carried the boat to a more placid waterway which also led nowhere. Eventually, they decided to return to the upper levels.

After moving back up the stairs, Kipp tracked small footprints belonging to different sized creatures which could have been elves, dwarves, children, or even halflings. They climbed a six-foot ridge and found an area littered with ancient bones. In the distance, they spotted large, nine-foot-tall figures that appeared to be hybrids of vultures and giant beetles with twelve-inch hooked claws.

These Hook Horrors ambushed the party from the ceiling and the surrounding rocks. Eleanor cast a slow spell, which hindered several of the monsters and allowed the fighters to gain the upper hand. Eleanor and Kipp sustained heavy damage but with the help of the others, managed to cut down the creatures one by one. One Hook Horror died from a “catastrophic heart failure” after failing its morale. (Too many attack rolls of 1 in a row.)

After defeating eight Hook Horrors, the party assessed their injuries and noted that Eleanor was in critical condition with only nine hit points remaining. Pyreece cast a curer serious wound on her and healed her for 15 points. The session concluded with the party earning experience for their victories over the Xorns, Lacedons, and Hook Horrors.

That is where the session ended.
