Summary

Detail

The group started with a little discussion about things they had learned. It was mentioned by either Symon or Caleldor that the captain of the RDVS Dragonfly was a Gregory. They believed that she might be one of Sir Charles' daughters. (The Dm has since confirmed this)

There was a discussion about the green light in Grimbog Vale, the vortex, and whatever killed the riders charging it as written in the journal that Second Lieutenant Stephan Murdock wrote. Symon thought that maybe that was Zara's mother, Xantha's, spell to awaken the dragon that died at the edge of the Grimbog Vale, using the mud of the vale and her own blood as a control for it. Did she succeed? They can't be sure. Murdock passed out and never saw what happened. He only noted that the light was gone and things appeared settled and quiet when he awoke.

The other revelation was about the old man attacked by the Xvarts. That must have been Murdock. The diamonds were what Lundor sent and both of those were gone noe. Although, after this adventure, Eryn was already secretly planning to hunt him down and steal back the diamond that the Xvart ran off with.

The party rested that night and then made their way back to the marker and then began moving north again. The path north looked like more of the same, cold and dreary. They moved on, underneath the overcast skies. The snowfall picked up and then later tapered off as they went. The mounds still dotted the landscape. They started thinking about how many of these things they'd seen and realized that there must have been one hell of a war fought here. The other thing about that was, how did they defeat that many dragons? They remembered the three artifacts that were stolen from the White Island. Symon thought that maybe with this many dragons dead, that maybe there was a battle between two dragon armies as well. Just not sure. That made Eryn ask, why the person behind this destruction would neec the help of the adventurers guild. What could they possibly offer him in aid. How is it that this one Dragon, Grizollo, seemed to be a problem for him.

About an hour before nightfall, Cal began scouting possible places to camp. He heard the sound of fluttering and looked up only to catch a faint glimpse of something, but it didn't stay in sight long enough for him to tell what it was. He also realized that he was hearing several of them. It was pretty small. He stopped and pulled his bow, notching an arrow and then watched the skies. Cal asked but no one else had seen it. They found a good spot to camp and set up for the night. Angelique did some healings. Cal, Xor, and Eryn took the watches. They didn't see or hear anything all night. It was still bitterly cold but the snow had let up some by morning. They set out again and after about 3 hours, they came upon an area where their were more boulders and rocks. There was a heavier snow cover here.

Cal spotted something ahead in the distance, moving around a rock. He stopped everyone and had Eryn come forward and look at what he was looking at. They saw a white creature about the size of a good sized bird, hopping around. Eryn and Cal pulled out their bows, notched arrows, and begin sneaking forward, Eryn took the lead Cal covered her. As she moved forward, they saw a bird-like creature hoping round a rock. It hadn't seemed to notice them yet. It was white and furry with wings folded in. Eryn paused and looked around the whole area but saw nothing else. Eryn had gotten pretty close when she spread her hands out in a gesture of friendship, attempting not to scare it off. When she got closer, it suddenly turned, screeched out, opened it's wings, hopped up, and prepared to leap at her. Eryn whipped out her shield.

Eryn hit the creature and deflected it's hit, then Cal fired at it, hitting it, and killing it. It was new to them but they learned much later that it was called a Frost Bat. They scanned the area as Xor ran up, looking for anything else they might have to defend against. Swooping down from the sky were many more of these bats. There were about 10 of them. Most everyone dropped their ranged weapons and prepared for the assault. Xor got hit and when he did, the creature latched onto him with it's claws and bit into him, sucking out blood. Eryn got latched onto next. Symon cast magic missile at one and hit it. At one point, early into this, they heard a sort of roar which snapped their heads back. Trying to see what caused it. Descending out of the clouds was something they had never seen before. It was Wyrm like but white and fury. It was large, about half the size of a dragon, and terrifying. It had wings of course, horns, and a tail with a stinger on it. Wyrmbane started buzzing.

Symon wanted to use the wand of wander but resisted the impulse. Cassandra was wearing the Rod of Dragon Detection tied off to her belt. It also began vibrating or buzzing. Cassandra started thinking about better places to put the device in order to derive some pleasure from it, then she refocused on the battle at hand. The Frost Wyrm landed on a rise and targeted a path through Cal and Cassandra and used his breath weapon to blow a cone of frost over them. They each took a bunch of damage. The Frost Bats sucking on Eryn and Xor continued removing their blood for more damage. Cassandra was hit and grappled as well. Xor ripped the one from his neck and took more damage doing that. He held it out and used his sword to lop of it's head. Cal hit the Frost Wyrn with Wyrmbane and his short sword. As he approached the Wyrm, the cold coming off it’s body was extreme and caused damage just being close to him. Angelique took out the one on her. Cassandra finished off one as well. Symon had moved back into the brush around him using it for additional cover while fending off the bat on him.

Stepping out of a mist that appeared on the other side of the battlefield, was another Frost Wyrm. Cal got hit with the stinger from the Frost Wyrm's tail that was fighting him. Cassandra was attacked by the new Frost Wyrm, being missed by his regular attack but hit by the tail. Cassandra took damage from her proximity to the Frost Wyrm. The damage from the cold proximity was cumulative. Cal had taken damage the first round and had he not saved this round, would have taken that damage again plus new damage. Since he successfully saved then he took no cold damage this round. Cassandra took the cold damage for the first time. Cal finished off the Frost Wyrm on him. Symon was shouting “Shew…Shew!” as he was ducking the Frost Bat's attacks within the trees branches. Cassandra attacked the second Wyrm and landed a good blow on it. Angelique cast Produce Flame on the Frost Wyrm attacking Cassandra and hit it. It took a little damage but it's extreme cold must have protected it some so it didn't take full damage. Xor killed another Frost Bat. Eryn and Cassandra took some more sucking damage.

Eryn was grappled by another bat. Now she was being sucked on by two of those things. Under her breath, she said, “This sucks!”. Cassandra took out the second Frost Wyrm and then collapsed along with him from the cold damage. The bat didn't let go of her when she fell. Eryn used her short sword to slice at one of the bats on her and killed it, nicely missing her own neck. Xor ripped off the other bat and killed it. Cal ripped the bat off of Cassandra and then killed it. Angelique through a flame at the Frost Bat attacking Symon. Cal finished off the bat on Symon while Angelique took care of healing Cassandra and getting her back up. They explored the possibility of getting components from the Frost Bats, specifically, the guano. They gathered that. The bat fur was usable as well. They also cut the stingers off of the tails of the Wyrms. They figured that if they didn't need it, they could maybe trade it to Tinkle. He also got some Frost Wyrm blood along with bat wings.

Cal checked the rock area where the first Frost Bat had been hopping around. But finding nothing and thinking about it a little, he determined that the hopping around was to get our attention and draw us into the ambush. They did as much healing as they could do and then headed off to the north. About an hour before the sun went down, Cal started looking for a place to set up camp for the night. He tried to determine how much longer till they reached the stairs to the valley but wasn't sure. He thought they were close and possibly reaching it the next day. Cal, Xor, and Cassandra were taking the watches. Angelique used her remaining healings before they rested. Cal was on first watch and was carefully watching for more of the Frost creatures but didn't see anything. Xor's experience was the same. Cassandra also heard and saw nothing.

As the sun rose, they were in a thick frosty fog.

They stopped here.

Start the recorder!

Xp's, 775 + 78 = 853 plus Cassandra was given an additional 326 + 33 = 359 to get both of them up one level. Eryn is 6th level and Cassandra made 5th level.
