Paldegora: The First Apocalypse - The Breaking

So it came to pass that slowly over time the children of Paldegora began to wish the light lasted longer so that they could do more and enjoy more. Not realizing the beauty of the night itself and the wonder of dreams that inspire things they accomplished. As a result, they began to worship Phi more than Sahn. Phi in response found herself stronger and began to grant them their prays. So slowly the days grew longer and Sahn began to diminish.

Naa noting the change warned Phi and began to push back on her so that Sahn would not notice, but deriving her strength at once from both Phi and Sahn, Naa had no choice and the twilight began to shorten the nights. Seeing this Sahn went to Phi and Naa and asked why such a thing could happen and why were they doing this to him. Phi replied that the children of Paldegora longed for the light and the bounty of nature more than the nights of stars and dreams. This angers Sahn and his protests are dismissed as trivial and unimportant, even being accused of selfishness on his part. Sahn being insulted then begins to change his harmony. Slowly and surely he begins adding notes of dissonance to his song and his anger creates a pulse in the song that the three had never heard before.

Naa, even more, alarmed at this change begs Sahn to stop. Being closer to him she begins to sense the ripples and change it is bringing into the world.

Sahn ignores her pleas and begins to influence the dreams of the inhabitants and cause greed, lust, envy, and self-importance to enter the children's minds. Soon the children of Paldegora begin to question the roles they were given. They begin to envy each other and question why they do the thing that was intended for them. Soon this breeds jealousy and hatred between the races. Phi cries out to Sahn to stop his dissonance, but Sahn being defiant then increases the pulse and murder enters the world.

This murder and death breaks the world.

The song of harmony the three sang ended. War and violence spread between all the children of the three and all life was now sure to be extinguished.

The breaking distances the three gods from the people and creates a barrier between them. No longer in harmony, they each sing their own song. Desperate to rebalance all things, Naa causes the seasons to come into being. Thus the unending cycle of life death and rebirth begins in the world. Next Naa splits the races, animals, and plants into male and female to preserve them from extinction. The elves are sundered into four groups, high, wood, sea, and dark, but they retain their agelessness. Dwarves, gnomes, and halflings become mortal and separate and hide from each other not now trusting the different races. All become resentful and untrusting of each other and openly hostile at times. Sahn then exploits this distrust between the races and these resentments and fear bring more wars along with it. In his final act of revenge, Sahn corrupts and twists the races to create darklings from them to worship and serve only him to spite Phi and Naa.

Thus a balance did return, but it was now one of struggle and survival, of Law and Chaos, and the weak suffering under the strong.

From all, this then rose the great kingdoms of the Elves, the glittering stone halls and deep mines of the Dwarves, the hidden forest realms of the Gnomes, and the ignored and simple farms and villages of the Halflings.

So did the ages pass and kingdoms fell and rose over and over again. Hordes of darklings, Orc, Goblin, and many fell creatures emerged to ravage and sadden the world.

The harmony of the three Gods of Paldegora was now forever broken.
