Session 34, Finding Angelique - Killing Sarah

This was a split session again. The evening started off with Angelique still separated from the others who were searching the underground structure for her.

When this session started, Sarah was still laying on the floor unconscious. With her being unconscious, Angelique used the magic phrase, "I've got to Tinkle!". The pendant began to glow a lime green but very dim. She said, "I don't know if it is safe for you to come here but if you can hear me, I need help. I'm in danger. They know about the book and the map.". S she said all of that, the dim light kept flashing. She passed on all of the information she'd heard. That's when Sarah became conscious again but she was still out of it with a lot of pain in her head. She left the room but she didn't secure the door. She told someone outside the room, "Go kill her!", seemingly meaning the girl in the room next to Angelique's. After a moment, she started hearing the fighting going on and she yelled for them to stop it and to leave her alone. That's about when the group arrived on the scene.

Eryn was still standing in the hallway outside the barracks and heard movement, men laughing and a woman crying out in pain. Without thinking too much about it, they took off toward the screams. Cal took the lead with great determination. Cassandra did her best to keep up. Everyone else followed! They moved through the kitchen and up the southern stairs on the other side of the kitchen. Upon reaching the next floor, he found people standing in the doorway of the cell where the torturous screams of a woman were coming from. The people were more of these guards that they had fought below. Cal ran up and hit one of the guards and almost broke Wyrmsbane. Cassandra moved forward and around the same guard to the other side of him and hit him. Xor came up and attacked one, achieving an exceptional hit on him. Cal killed the one he hit earlier. Xor took a hit. Xor took a second hit but the guard was still standing. Eryn took a couple of bow shots at one, hitting it twice.

Symon took up a position watching for some additional reinforcements. Cassandra, Eryn, and Cal heard a cry for help from further up he hallway. Cassandra thought it sounded like Angelique. Xor didn't hear anything as he was focused on killing the one in front of him, which he did. Cal moved further down the hallway to the next door, where the yelling he had heard came from. The door was slightly ajar so he pushed it open and ran inside. It was a torture chamber, blood everywhere. Chained to the wall was Angelique. All of her belongings were strewn about the room. He looked at her and pointed at the far door. Angelique understood what he was asking without words and answered, "There is no one there but there is a woman that ran back that way.", pointing toward where she'd last seen her. He felt safe. Xor's next opponent dismayed by the death of his comrade, and fearing for his own safety, threw everything he had at Xor but missed. Cassandra attacked the same guard but missed. Eryn broke off to check on the woman that screamed from the other room, following Cal, and also found Angelique chained up. Xor slammed the guard on him again but he was still standing.

Eryn started unlocking the locks holding Angelique. Cal moved back to the original room and killed the last guard. They addressed the woman laying on the floor of the cell. She was in very bad shape. She wore the uniform of a captain in King Lundor's Army, complete with wolfs head. A member of the Royal Dragonsvale Wolfpack Air Command, she'd been stabbed, had an eye put out, her fingers had been cut off, and obviously completely brutalized. She was still breathing but only barely still alive. Cal fed her a dose of his extra healing potion. She became a little more alert and asked who they were. Xor told her that they were the good guys. He kneeled to pick her up but her injuries were much deeper than they'd thought. She screamed out as he attempted to moved her. He stopped and let her rest again. Cal tried to offer her the rest of his extra healing potion but she stopped him. She could no longer feel her legs. Eryn finally got the locks all opened and Angelique was freed. They gathered up her belongings.

Cal asked about the other woman that Angelique had spoken of but she didn't know for sure where she'd gone. Cal moved further down the hallway looking for anyone. Xor cautioned against getting another battle started. Cal seemed singularly focused on finding more enemies. He circled the hallway. The injured woman pulled Cassandra closer to tell her something, "Ship crashed, crew dead, sister escaped, sent her back for help, she came back to help me, they are hunting her. You must stop them.". With that said, she passed out. Cassandra moved around the opposite direction from Cal, to help search the immediate area. Cal found a room. It was a sitting room with a carpet in the middle with a pentagram design on it. There was a chair, a fireplace that's lit, a couch, a dressing mirror, and a desk. Cal moved into the room and began looking around the room. There was no one in the room but there was a set of keys. Cal checked another door and opened it finding a table, wardrobes, ornate weapons, functional but likely used for ceremonial purposes. Cassandra moved to another door and checked  it. That door led to the same room from the other side. Cal decided the weapons were decorated with the markings of Sahn. He picked up a dagger and tried to break it, eventually snapping it.

Cassandra tried another door and found it locked. They searched the guards and found about 25 coppers and 10 silver. Eryn searched the cabinets on the room with the decorative weapons. There were ceremonial robes but nothing of any help. Symon got Angelique back to the room with Agatha. She found she had passed. They don't know her name was Agatha, but I, as the writer, saw it her name and I can't unsee it. Cal went back to the room with the desk and searched it. There were books on the worship of Sahn and papers about different rituals. Nothing jumped out at him except that on the skull, there was a set of spectacles. It was as if someone put their reading glasses on the skull as a holder. They were just round regular glasses. This was about the time that Symon found out that Angelique had been found. Being suspicious, he began quizzing her to try and determine if it really was her and not some imposter. He finally felt that she really was who she claimed to be. Angelique told them that they had to get out of here. She would tell them what she knows but they need to leave this place. They exited the room and headed for the locked door. Cassandra went back to the female soldier's body and pulled the emblem of the wolfs head from the uniform so that they would have something to present to the sister if they found her.

Eryn picked the lock on the locked door and opened it reveiling the temple. Angelique sprinkled holy water and recited prayers as they moved through the room. Eryn checked one of the sarcophagus and found it empty. Cal thought about taking a dump on the sigil on the floor so everyone else began leaving the room. Cal thought better of it and left with them. They exited the room and began moving up the stairs. They came to a point where the floor was wet, where it wasn't when they went in. The leak they had created above must be the cause. A little ways up, Eryn pointed out that there hadn't appeared to be a way down the cliff outside when we looked earlier. They had seen the torches leading to and from the base of the cliff in this general area. They'd figured out that's when they were chasing the escaping girl. There must be a way out below, through the structure. She thought that they should go through the structure and not back out the way they came.  They discussed it and greed that the way to they valley must be through the inside. They went back down the stairs and through the temple room and back down the stairs to the dinning hall.

They went to the stairs west of the dining hall that lead down. Eryn went first down the stairs. They were steep and one person wide. They went a long way down before reaching the bottom. They reached a long hallway leading west. There were two archways in the southern wall of that hall. A set of double doors in the wall of the north side of that hallway, and way down the hallway was another open archway in the northern wall. The floor of the hallway changed at the other end from the square tile to cobblestones. Eryn moved to the first archway leading south. It had openings and doors on either side along it's length and some wheelbarrows along with a wagon at the far end. Eryn had everyone freeze and be quiet while she listened. She heard voices but they were coming from further down the main hallway, not this south passage. She let them know she was goig to check out the noise she was hearing further west. She moved quietly to the west trying to penpoint what the sound was and where it was coming from. The second southern hallway went down a little ways and turned west. There was a door in that hallway as well.

Eryn stopped and listened some more and determined that she was hearing voices and they sounded like they were coming from the archway to the north just a little further west. She moved down to that opening and peaked around the corner listening to the conversation. She saw a few people and a desk. She went back to Cal and whispered to him that she heard voices in the room, and suggested that they try to first long southern hallway. Cal indicated that he wanted to know if they had horns. Eryn didn't see them so she wasn't sure. He pulled out his swords and Eryn tried to get him to pause a moment while she got the others to come down and prepare for this. He didn't wait. He listened and then moved up towards the archway. Eryn was trying to get everyone else to move that way because she just knew he was about to drag them into a fight. Angelique told Symon that there were three people that she hasn't seen yet, two men and a woman. One of the men was creepy looking. Symon observes, "Cal seems to be on a little bit of  a rampage here.". Eryn moved back close to Cal to Back him up. Cal still couldn't hear what they were saying, He finally couldn't seem to hold himself back any longer and turned the corner lunging at the first person he saw. Eryn followed in right behind him. Cassandra began moving down that way quickly as well.  

There were four guards standing and sitting in there, just talking and drinking a little. There is a brasier, a weapons rack, shelves of clothes, a desk and chair, tables, craters and barrels. They were more of the horned creatures they had fought upstairs. He targeted the first one, surprising him and killing him. Eryn attacked another one but missed. Cal went to town on the next guard and did. Lot of damage but he was still standing when he was done. Symon placed himself in a position to watch further down the cobblestone hallway. There was an archway with a portcullis that was down. Beyond the portcullis was daylight. There was an archway about halfway down the hallway to the north. The guard on Cal started yelling loudly while missing Cal. Angelique moved into a position to fire on the one on Eryn. Cassandra charged into the room and targeted the unassigned guard, hitting him. Eryn was hit. Xor moved in and hit one of them. 

Symon observed no one responding to the loud yelling the one guard did. Cal moved up to another one and killed him. Symon began firing his sling at the enemy while keeping an eye down the hallway. Eryn couldn't hit her opponent. Xor finished off his. He moved to another hallway to make sure no one was coming to assist the horned guards. Cal finished off the last one. Symon started hearing movement from the west, then he, Angelique, and Xor froze in place. From the west came a wicked looking woman and a four more of these horned guards. Eryn engaged the first one, trying to stop them. A second one moved up and attacked her. Cal moved up and really messed up one of them. The forth one couldn't engage and stayed behind the line ready to move up when he could. Eryn got hit again, very hard. She was way down. Cassandra pulled out her bow and fired twice on the one on Eryn. Eryn began trying to draw one of the two fighting her back and by doing so, block the other one from attacking her. She was trying to limit her opponents to one. 

Sarah, the wicked looking woman pulled out a potion bottle and drank it. Cassandra fired on the one on Eryn again hitting her. Eryn used a defensive mode and backed up a little to try to draw her opponents closer. He didn't move this round and hit her again. Sarah pulled out her sling and fired at Eryn and missed. Eryn backed up enough that there would only be room for one attacker. He moved up and attacked her but missed. Cal killed another one.  Cal finished off the one on Eryn. Cassandra fired on the one that moved up on Cal and hit him. Eryn attacked the one on Cal. Cassandra dropped her bow and pulled out her sword and charged at the last guard. Cal finished off new one on him. Sarah charged up with her flail to hit Cassandra and missed. Cal moved up to attack the remaining guard and hit him. Eryn fired on Sarah, lightly scratching her. Sarah hit Cassandra for quite a bit of damage. Eryn fired on Sarah again hitting her much better this time. Cassandra hit Sarah as she growled at her. Sarah growled back. Cal finished off the last guard. Only Sarah remained. Sarah hit Cassandra again. Eryn hit Sarah again followed by Cassandra getting a second hit in. She was still standing though. 

Symon, Angelique, and Xor were released from being held about this time. Cal was finally able to attack Sarah. She didn't last long. Angelique ran up and yelled, "Call me bitch again.". She searched her and found her ring that Sarah had taken from her. She also searched her for anything else that wasn't evil. Call moved up and looked in the room. The room was an indoor stable. As he looked toward the portcullis at the end of the hallway, he saw that he was looking out on the valley floor. They were at the bottom and would be able to start crossing that now. Angelique found a sling, flail, chainmail armor, 20 metal sling bullets, a tender box, general supplies, 10 gold piece, a holy symbol of Sahn, an empty potion bottle, and a wand. Seqrching the rest of the guards, they found another 25 gold, and 10nsilver pieces. Cal moved to the portcullis and looked out onto the valley bog. Thee were patches of snow and iut was cold but not nearly as cold as it was up top. It is weedy and muddy. Angelique heled some of Eryn's wounds. She healed Cassandra some as well. On the desk back in the other room, they found a sort of roster of who was on duty and where. It was pretty mundane but did imply that the number of those serving was dropping over time. There was also one event where a buynch of them left and never came back. Cal looked at one of the other hallways but didn't see anything. Eryn finished searching the first room where they found the guards and found nothing but general supplies. 

They decided to sit and rest for a bit. Cal indicated that he wanted to hear Angelique's story. She recounted what had happened in a format much like that of a diary. It is in the previous session journal. I'll not recount it here. Many questions were answered in the telling but many new questions arose. Angelique suggested that they search for the map room Mathias had spoken of to Yoakum.
